How the Wireless Transmission System Provides Video Surveillance Solution for Port Cranes?

Introduction

Due to the continuous transshipment that takes place in terminals, port cranes need to work as efficiently and safely as possible. Time pressure leaves no room for error-let alone accidents.

Clear vision is essential for maintaining optimal levels of efficiency and safety when work is being carried out. IWAVE communication develop high-quality, professional Surveillance solutions for every situation, with the aim of increasing safety, efficiency, and comfort.

To increase productivity and safety, video images are increasingly being shared via smart devices between various units and cabs and between machines in the field and staff at the office.

Challenge

With the development of domestic import and export trade, China’s coastal freight terminals have become increasingly busy, and the transportation of bulk cargo or container cargo has increased day by day.

During the daily loading and unloading process, the port's cranes such as rubber-tired gantry cranes, rail mounted gantry cranes (AMG)and automatic stacking cranes (ASC) load goods frequently and hoist goods with large tonnage.

To ensure the safe operation of the port cranes, the port terminal management hopes to realize full visual monitoring of the working process of the equipment, so it is necessary to install high-definition network cameras on the port cranes. However, since the port cranes does not reserve signal lines during the initial installation process, and because the bottom of the crane is a moving platform, and the upper end is a rotating working layer. Transmitting signals over a wired network is not possible, it is very inconvenient and affects the use of the equipment. To achieve visual management, it is necessary to solve the problem of video surveillance signal transmission. Therefore, it is a good solution to solve this problem through wireless transmission system.

Wireless Transmission Surveillance system not only allows the operator or administrator to see the crane hook, load and work area using a display in the monitoring center.

This also allows the driver to operate the crane with greater precision, thus preventing damage and accidents. The wireless nature of the system gives the crane operator much more flexibility to move around the loading and unloading areas.

Project Introduction

The port is divided into two work areas. The first area has 5 gantry cranes, and the second area has 2 automatic stacking cranes. The automatic stacking cranes are required to install a high-definition camera to monitor the hook loading and unloading operation process, and each gantry crane is equipped with 4 high-definition cameras to monitor the operation process. The gantry cranes are about 750 meters away from the monitoring center, and the 2 automatic stacking cranes are about 350 meters away from the monitoring center.

Project purpose: Real-time monitoring of the crane hoisting process, and the management center can visualize the monitoring and video recording storage requirements.

Solution

The system includes camera, wireless video transmitter and receiver units and Visual Command and Dispatching Platform. The base on LTE technology wireless digital video transfer via dedicated frequency.

FDM-6600 wireless high-bandwidth transmission device is used on each crane to connect to the IP camera on each crane, and then two omnidirectional antennas are installed for signal coverage, that is, regardless of the working status of the crane, can ensure that an antenna and the remote monitoring center can see each other. In this way, the signal can be transmitted stably without packet loss.

The receiver end monitoring center uses a 10w MIMO Broadband point to multiple points Link design for outdoor. As the smart node, this product can support a maximum of 16 nodes. The video transmission of each tower crane is a slave node, thus forming a one point to multiple point networking.

The wireless self-organizing network uses IWAVE communication wireless communication data links to achieve wireless always backhaul to the monitoring center, so that the port cranes process can be monitored in real time, and the recorded and retained monitoring video can be retrieved.

These solutions can be customized to suit different locations and needs. Port Crane video surveillance management solutions help improve workplace safety, improve work efficiency, reduce the risk of accidents, and provide management with more data and insights about work processes.

Benefits of Solution

Data Analysis and Recording

The monitoring system can record the working data of the crane, including working hours, lifting weight, moving distance, etc., so that management can conduct performance evaluation and optimization.

Video Analysis

Use video analysis technology to automatically identify hook positions, material heights, safety areas and other functions to increase operating efficiency and reduce accident risks.

Video Playback and Retrace

When a problem or accident occurs, the past operating records of the crane can be traced to help with accident investigation and liability investigation.

Safety Training and Education

Conduct safety training and education through video surveillance recordings to help operators understand and improve work practices and reduce potential risks.
